the dangers of mouth breathing

 

Some ways of breathing can nourish our bodies, minds and spirit. Some ways of breathing can steal years from your life as you sleep- mouth breathing is one of them. Sleeping with an open mouth at night depletes every cell in the body of oxygen. This causes a massive imbalance in nervous system function propelling the body into a state of stress. Causing massive spikes in blood pressure, heart rate and decreases in mental clarity.

Mouth breathing also causes a decrease in body water, increasing the need for urination. It also allows for the introduction of unfiltered air into our mouth and lungs. It increases the chances of dental complications such as bad breath, gum disease and cavities and crooked teeth. Mouth breathing is by far the number one cause of chronic sinus congestion.
