Genesis 2:7
The practice of conscious breathing is an act of generating and cultivating energy. The aim is to activate and regulate the life force within us, it is the life force that draws the breath inside of us. There are many different kinds of pranayama, with many different levels, and all have specific and long-lasting benefits.
Sickness is nothing but depletion of the body's energy to a level where our immune system cannot fight, virus, bacteria, environmental toxins, or any other foreign invader. Breathing techniques infuse a massive amount of oxygen into the body and mind, increasing efficiency of all essential functions. The process of controlled breathing allows efficient transfer of fresh air through inhalation and the removal of old stale air from the body and blood through exhalation. This process called respiration occurs every 3.3 seconds in the human body and through breathwork practice we show the body reciprocation.
Conscious breathing reduces pain, induces sleep, elevates mood, clears up the skin, improves digestive power (called metabolism), reduces catabolism and increases anabolism, strengthens the nervous system, stimulates the functioning of the autonomic nervous system, improves the working of the lungs, heart, diaphragm, abdomen, intestines, kidneys and pancreas. All body organs get more oxygen, toxins are removed from the body and may prevent the onset of various chronic diseases.
When the mind is under control and the self-awareness is heightened, it remains unaffected by disturbing thoughts. Thus, by controlling the mind and becoming aware of it through breathwork, one would be able to control different emotions and as a result, the temperament, moods, desires and natural instincts of mind would also be controlled automatically.
